Presenter Information: Jack started his career as a software engineer after studying computer science and graduating from Miami University with honors. After graduation, he decided to follow his social entrepreneurial passion and enrolled to do a year of service with Youth Venture through AmeriCorps. Two years later, Jack is now responsible for establishing Youth Venture’s presence in the Pacific Northwest and also serves on the Board of Directors with the Youth Suicide Prevention Program.

     

  • Scott DePuy and Charlene DePuy, Ryan's Solution The Ryan’s Solution Foundation “The Gold Standard Pledge”
    • Presenter Information: Scott and Charlene DePuy lost there 17 year old son Ryan to an accidental prescription and over the counter drug overdose on April, 2008. In June 2008 Ryan’s Solution was founded by Gail Manahan of Lake Stevens. Later in the year the Ryan’s Solution Foundation was founded and in July of 2009 the foundation became an IRS 501-C-3. The Foundations mission is to help prevent teen drug abuse and help teens and parents of teens that suffer from the disease of addiction.

Presenter Information: Sondra Storm coordinates PREVENT!, a coalition of concerned citizens working together toward a healthy thriving drug-free Clark County. Sondra is passionate aboutfacing the challenges in front of us with collaboration and creativity. She enjoys learning from and being inspired by the youth and adults that work with PREVENT! and celebrates the positive change the prevention community is creating. Angela McKinney is a Prevention Specialist for Clark County committed to increasing youth engagement in prevention work. She coordinates a dynamic prevention peer education team called STASHA. She loves listening to the ideas of her youth and helping them develop plans and strategies in prevention.// Strong Teens Against Substance Hazards and Abuse, STASHA, is a peer education team sponsored by Clark County. The team is a diverse group of middle school and high school youth charged to promote prevention awareness, advise groups on successful prevention strategies and encourage youth to reduce their risks around substance use.

Presenter Information: Paul Figueroa of Peace Enforcement LLC is a highly sought after, skilled and passionate motivational speaker. He was a police officer for over 12 years, and for the last 11 years he has been working to positively impact the lives of people, both young and old. He received "The Governor's Child Abuse Prevention Award" for his work with families in Washington State, has appeared on radio, including Radio Disney and he was on the Today Show.

 

 


  • Jim Cooper, TOGETHER! and Kimberly Vivian, 2009 Thurston County Youth Philanthropist of the Year Advocacy for Youth by Youth
    • Presenter Information: Jim Cooper has worked in the prevention field for the several years and is currently the Director of Community Mobilization at TOGETHER! in Olympia and a board member of the Washington Association for Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention. His passions in life are people and the environment and he has always worked hard to make sure both are healthy and safe in whatever community he is living in. Jim enjoys the outdoors and loves to go hiking with his wife Thomasina and their two Black Labs. Kimberly Vivian is a freshman at Saint Martin's University (SMU) who is originally from Lacey, WA. She has been a part of SPLAT! (Students Protesting Lies About Tobacco) for the past two years. She was the event planner for last year's P-MED (Policymaker Education Day). Her hobby is golfing from sun up until sun down for SMU.
     

  • WAPI Leadership Council Alternative to “Drugs”
    • Presenter Information: Youth leaders from WAPI Community Services with present how to choose alternative ways to doing drugs by using music, spoken word poetry and games.

  • Othello RUaD Youth Action Team Youth Involved in Reducing Underage Drinking
    • Presenter Information: The Youth Action Team from the Othello Community Coalition has been an active and valued youth group in their community for several years now. The group members have been trained nationally on substance abuse issues, particularly on reducing underage drinking. Through their training and understanding of youth behaviors and beliefs, the Othello Youth Action Team has developed a creative way to present to their peers on reducing underage drinking. Their presentation brings awareness, gets people talking, and thinking about why this topic is important and what others can do to reduce underage drinking. Due to their accomplishments this group was recognized by peers at the 2009 Youth Spring Forum.

  • Wapato SADD: How to Work as One
    • Presenter Information: Diana Lopez is a junior at the Wapato High School, she has been involved in S.A.D.D for the past three years. Last year Diana was the project leader for the community gang awareness night and the beautification project. She has been involved at the school as an ASB officer and has build positive relationships in the community with outside agencies that have collaborated with our club projects. Javier Duran is a junior at the Wapato High School he has been involved in S.A.D.D. for the past three years. Javier has been involved in every project he has built relationships with the Yakima County Meth Action team by participating in an advertisement to promote youth being alcohol and drug free. Griselda Solis is a junior at the Wapato High School she has been involved in S.A.D.D. for the past three years. Griselda is very professional she loves volunteering at different agencies in Wapato and has been involved in every project. She has built positive relationships with agencies in the lower valley that support our club efforts. Griselda Garcia is a junior at the Wapato High School she has been involved in S.A.D.D. for the past three years. Griselda is very professional she loves volunteering at different agencies in Wapato and has been involved in every project. She has built positive relationships with agencies in the lower valley that support our club efforts. Orlando Garcia is a junior at the Wapato High School he has been involved in S.A.D.D. for the past three years. Orlando is very outgoing and energetic, he has built relationships with the American Lung Association, which offer T.A.T.U. (Teens Against Tobacco Use) training for our S.A.D.D. members who are interested. Alina Gutierrez is a junior at the Wapato High School she has been involved in S.A.D.D. for the past three years. Alina is involved in other clubs and sports she is a very friendly person who is liked by her peers. She helps our club obtain other club partnership and more student involvement. Andrea Lopez is a junior at the Wapato High School she has been involved in S.A.D.D. for the past three years. Andrea loves working with children, she engages elementary and middle school students during our classroom presentations. She also helps our clubs with organizing special projects.
